Get ready for a cosmic comedy of errors and true love!
This is Eternity, the 2025 American fantasy romantic comedy that's about to redefine your afterlife. Directed by David Freyne and co-written with Pat Cunnane, it stars the incredible Miles Teller, Elizabeth Olsen, Callum Turner, John Early, Olga Merediz, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph.
Imagine this: you die. Then, you get one week. One week to decide where you'll spend *eternity*. For our protagonist, Joan, played by the luminous Elizabeth Olsen, it’s not about the location, it’s about the company. She's faced with an impossible choice: her first love, lost to war, or the man she built her life with. Who do you pick when forever is on the line?
Eternity is a story that asks big questions with a light touch. It premiered to rave reviews at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and is landing in theaters nationwide on November 26, 2025, courtesy of A24.
The premise is simple, yet profound: After death, everyone gets a week to choose their eternal destination. But for Joan, Larry, and Luke, the real question is *with whom* to spend it. Will she choose the memory of her first love, a soldier who never returned, or the steady comfort of the man who became her world?
Let's meet the cast that brings this celestial dilemma to life: Miles Teller as Larry Cutler, the man Joan built her life with. Barry Primus as Old Larry. Elizabeth Olsen as Joan, the heart of this romantic tug-of-war. Betty Buckley as Old Joan. Callum Turner as Luke, Joan's first husband, a hero lost to war. Da'Vine Joy Randolph shines as Anna, Larry's afterlife coordinator, and John Early brings his charm as Joan's afterlife coordinator, Ryan. And rounding out the cast is Olga Merediz as Karen.
This project has a pedigree to match its premise. Pat Cunnane's script for Eternity was recognized on The Black List in 2022 as one of the most-liked unproduced screenplays. In March 2024, David Freyne was tapped to direct for A24, with Olsen, Teller, and Turner signing on. The incredible Da'Vine Joy Randolph joined in late May, followed by John Early and Olga Merediz in June. The evocative score is by David Fleming. Principal photography kicked off in Vancouver on May 24, 2024, and wrapped by July 5.
Eternity made its grand debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2025. It went on to close the 61st Chicago International Film Festival on October 26, 2025, and was featured in the Icon section of the 2025 Stockholm International Film Festival on November 9. And now, it's ready to capture hearts nationwide on November 26, 2025.
The critics are already buzzing! On Rotten Tomatoes, 84% of 38 reviews are positive, and Metacritic gives it a score of 65/100, indicating "generally favorable" reviews. Pete Hammond of Deadline praised its "bright and fun production design" and "sparkling colorful cinematography," though he humorously noted the middle section "feels like an eternity."
Get ready to fall in love, laugh, and ponder your own eternal choices. Eternity is coming.
