Plot
Sathya Seelan, a designer who keeps dodging marriage proposals, is finally cornered by his fed-up sister, who fixes a matchmaking meeting without revealing any details about the girl. Reluctantly, Sathya shows up and meets Monisha, a social media influencer. The conversation starts awkwardly but takes an unexpected turn when Monisha realises Sathya was her senior back in school.
Sathya opens up about his love for Anisha during their school days. Sathya, his friend Dinesh, and Anisha were classmates. Sathya was smitten for Anisha and wouldn't write his weekly exam without seeing her. On one particular occasion, when Anisha was absent, he gave in a paper with no words on it and got beatings from their teacher, Swaminathan. After getting closer with Anisha, Sathya tells Dinesh that he chooses to confess his love for Anisha on her birthday - but fails to do so. After their exams end and during the school annual day, he tells Dinesh that he will propose to Anisha today. However, Dinesh reveals that she has a boyfriend - none other than himself, which leaves Sathya heartbroken.
Monisha then opens up about her story in the same school in the 10th grade with her friends Vinu and Sandhya, and how she was a backbencher who stayed at the school hostels. During an exam one day, Monisha asks Balaji (a class topper) to pass some paper to a classmate and is caught by their teacher. She asks him to reveal the culprit, but Balaji remains tight-lipped and is reported to the principal. Monisha, angry at the teachers actions, breaks the teachers' glasses while she washes her face. Over time, Monisha's interest in Balaji grows - to the extent that she joins the same tuition center as Balaji, and grows closer to him. After Vinu's advice, she chooses to propose to Balaji one day when he is studying but asks him about an upcoming exam instead. When they witness some seniors (revealed to be Sathya and his friend) fighting with a boy from another school, Balaji tells Monisha to leave and runs away from the scene. Monisha tells her friends in confidence about the incident, but Sandhya tells the entire class. Balaji is mocked by the whole class, and he becomes angry with Monisha for telling everyone and stops speaking to her. Towards the end of the academic year, when students start writing slam books, Monisha gifts one to Balaji, hoping he will write something and return it. When he doesn't, she decides to speak to him on their last exam day, but suddenly her mother shows up, causing her to leave early. On their school annual day, she decides to apologize for what happened and ask about the slam book. Before she can do so, a problem erupts between some parents and Swaminathan in the end, causing Sathya to slap him.
After they finish narrating their parts of the story, Monisha pitches an unusual idea: before they commit to each other, they should reconnect with their past loves and seek closure for their past unresolved emotions from their past. The next day, Monisha goes to Sathya's house to plan how they can find out information about Anisha and Balaji. Sathya, who is more interested in impressing Monisha than their plan, shows a lack of interest. This angers Monisha and she confronts him about his activities. On the terrace at night, they call Dinesh to find out information about Anisha - she moved abroad after getting married. Dinesh promises them that he will get Anisha's number by the morning.
They both go to Trichy for Santhosh's wedding for clues about Balaji, as part of their plan. Monisha then reveals the incident that happened during their school annual day. Sandhya and Santhosh were boyfriend and girlfriend back then and in the heat of moment, she slapped him. Santhosh, in return, threatens to leak her pictures and Sandhya cries about this with Vinu. Swaminathan, a well-respected teacher at the school, sees Sandhya crying and asks what happened. Santhosh and the other boys jump over the wall near the female toilets and parents mistakedly observe him trying to get a look in the womens' toilets instead. The misunderstanding causes an argument between some nearby parents and Swaminathan, and Sathya then slaps him feeling disrespected. Monisha makes him apologise to Swaminathan, and they make up.
Sathya receives a follow request from an anonymous Instagram user, who follows Monisha and is an avid fan of hers. Monisha says that they reached out after they saw the picture of Sathya and her on her story. Sathya is curious what the message was about, but Monisha declines to answer. Fuelled by his insecurity, Sathya checks her phone whilst she sleeps and finds out that Monisha referred to him as a 'would-be'. The next morning, Monisha finds out that Sathya snuck through her phone and opened the message and kicks Sathya out. They both later go to Santhosh's after-party, give each other closure and stay together for the night.
They visit their former school where Sathya finds Jaffer (a junior under Sathya at school) working there and they explain their plan and Jaffer promises to help them. He finds out that Anisha is currently back in India for a week, after moving abroad and gives them Anisha's number. Monisha speaks to her and plans to meet her in the evening. Sathya, who is already nervous about meeting Anisha after so long, says that he will go after being comforted by Monisha, who lets him know that nothing serious will happen. Sathya confesses his past feelings to Anisha, and they both laugh about this, with Anisha saying that he should have just said this in the past.
Later that night, Sathya receives a call from the anonymous user, who is revealed to be Balaji. The next day, both Sathya and Monisha make their way to meet Balaji. Sathya goes out to take a call and returns to see Balaji hugging Monisha. Under the impression that they got back together, Sathya leaves without saying goodbye to either of them.
Whilst under the influence and in a heartbroken state, Sathya drunk dials Dinesh and says that he may be dead the next day. The next morning, Dinesh as well as Jaffer, Santosh, Anisha and his sister come home, citing the same reason. Balaji then comes, and clears up what happened that day. When Balaji proposed to Monisha, she brushed it off saying that she had lost her previous feelings for him and would rather be with Sathya. After realising his mistake, Sathya rushes to meet Monisha, they get back together.

Reception
Critical response
With Love received positive reviews from critics.
Yashaswini Sri of The Indian Express gave 4/5 stars and wrote "With Love is the kind of film that won’t blow you away with spectacle, but it will sit quietly in your chest for days afterward."[25] Avinash Ramachandran of Cinema Express gave 3/5 stars and wrote "Powered by convincing performances, With Love reins in the urge to be just another launch vehicle, and ends up finding magic in the chaos of love".[26] Roopa Radhakrishnan of The Times of India gave 3/5 stars and wrote "With Love works far better when the interactions and one-liner jokes are character-specific rather than when it resorts to being overly generalised. With Love doesn't reinvent the genre. It follows a conventional pattern but finds the charm in its likeable lead performances, Sean Roldan’s vibrant music and a lovely supporting cast."[27]
Anusha Sundar of OTTPlay gave 2.5/5 stars and wrote "With Love is a film that is as casual and breezy as it gets. It has the ingredients of a romantic drama, even if the proportions are a little high or low at times."[28] K Janani of India Today gave 2.5 out of 5 stars and wrote "With Love scores big in interconnecting the stories of Abishan and Anaswara well, but it lacks the cohesiveness to emerge as a fully satisfying romantic drama."[29] Bhuvanesh Chandar of The Hindu wrote "Though written with a lot of heart and a conviction to make a simple and sweet meet-cute, debutant Madhan’s film ends up as a middling rom-com that lacks inner scaffolding".[30] Kirubhakar Purushothaman of The Federal also reviewed the film.[31][32]
Box office
With Love earned around ₹19.65 crore in its first ten days, narrowly missing the ₹20 crore mark by the end of its second weekend.[33]
