The wedding of American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and American football player Travis Kelce took place on July 3, 2026, at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in Manhattan, New York City. Both are influential figures in the entertainment industry, and their nuptials generated extensive press and social media coverage, although the couple did not publicize any details until after they were married.

Swift and Kelce began a romantic relationship in August 2023, following Swift's Eras Tour concerts at Arrowhead Stadium—the home of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kelce's team—a month prior. They made their first public appearance together at the Chiefs' home game against the Chicago Bears on September 24, 2023. Over the next two years, the couple continued dating and became engaged on August 10, 2025, when Kelce proposed at his home in Lee's Summit, Missouri after they finished recording an episode of his sports podcast, New Heights, in which Swift announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl (2025). Their engagement announcement on Instagram became one of the most-liked posts on the platform.

An intimate rehearsal dinner took place on July 2 with 100 guests, followed by a wedding ceremony on July 3 attended by about 1,000 friends and colleagues, including a plethora of prominent celebrities and public figures from music, film, television, sports, fashion and media industries. Swift and Kelce picked the MSG, an indoor arena, as the venue for its large, secure, and enclosed space. Dior and Christian Louboutin designed the matrimonial attire for the couple, with jewelry from Cartier for Swift. Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, and the couple's siblings Austin Swift and Jason Kelce served as man of honor and best man, respectively. Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Ciara, and Fergie performed at the wedding. The couple donated US$26 million to various charity groups across the United States. Many journalists and cultural critics described the wedding as an American royal function and a symbolic union of football and pop music.

Background

Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter from West Reading, Pennsylvania.[1] Throughout her career she won 14 Grammy Awards, became the world's wealthiest female musician with an estimated net worth of $2.1 billion,[2] and is among the best selling music artists of all time.[3] Travis Kelce is an American professional football player from Cleveland Heights, Ohio.[2][1] He won three Super Bowl championships throughout his career and is one of the highest-scoring tight ends in history.[4][5] The two are both regarded as influential figures in their respective fields, music and sports, and indispensable in American popular culture.[6][7][8]

Relationship

Arrowhead Stadium is the home field of Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs, a host of Swift's Eras Tour, and the venue of the couple's first public date.

On March 17, 2023, Swift embarked on her sixth concert tour, the Eras Tour.[9] It visited Kansas City, Missouri, for two concerts at Arrowhead Stadium—the home venue of the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL, on July 7–8, 2023.[10] Kelce, the Chiefs' tight end, attended the second show with his teammate, quarterback Patrick Mahomes.[11] Kelce attempted to meet Swift backstage afterward but was unable to do so.[12] He later said during an episode of his sports podcast New Heights, aired on July 26, 2023, that he felt disappointed as he had planned to give her his phone number.[12] Swift later revealed that she was charmed by Kelce's willingness to court her publicly and decided to give him a chance.[13] They began spending time together,[14] and by the time Kelce publicly invited Swift to attend the Chiefs' home game against the Chicago Bears on September 24, 2023, they were already a couple.[15][16] Kelce later told GQ that he and Swift had fallen in love "organically".[17]

Swift supported Kelce and his team at multiple football games and public events, which generated a significant increase in viewership and brand value for the NFL and influenced the popularity of American football.[18][19] Swift's WAGs-inspired sportswear, Chiefs merchandise, and customized outfits received widespread coverage.[20][21][22][23][24] The NFL and NBC Sports used the relationship for social media content and to promote subsequent games.[25][26] The Times of India wrote that Swift redefined "WAG culture".[27] The NFL games Swift attended broke numerous viewership records, including record-high female viewership.[28][29] The Chiefs–San Francisco 49ers (Super Bowl LVIII) on February 11, 2024, drew 123.4 million viewers on CBS/Paramount+ and 202.4 million total viewers, becoming the most-watched non-news telecast of all time and most-watched broadcast since the Apollo 11 moon landing,[30][31][32] until it was surpassed by Super Bowl LIX's tally of 127.7 million viewers, which also featured the Chiefs and was attended by Swift.[33] Kelce appeared and supported Swift throughout the remainder of the Eras Tour as well.[34] Swift released her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, on April 19, 2024, which included the love songs "The Alchemy" and "So High School"; both were interpreted as being inspired by Kelce.[35][36]

The couple's pairing inspired cultural commentary. Media outlets dubbed them a supercouple and often as America's own "royal couple".[37][38][39][40] Their relationship attracted a parasocial investment amongst the general public and Swift's fanbase.[41] Emily Yahr wrote in The Washington Post that the U.S. "giddily contemplates" the pairing of Swift and Kelce, which, "for many observers, checks all the right boxes",[42] whereas Andrew Unterbeger of Billboard opined that the pair resulted in "near-100% public approval" because "it just felt right: the All-American athlete dating the All-American pop star."[43] Robert Armstrong of Financial Times described Kelce as a royal consort—"the most important boyfriend in the world; perhaps the most important boyfriend in all of human history."[44] Kyle Chayaka of The New Yorker wrote, "The narrative, admittedly, was almost too neat: America's sweetheart dating the national equivalent of a homecoming king".[45]

Engagement

After two years of dating, Kelce proposed to Swift on August 10, 2025, at his home in Lee's Summit, Missouri.[46] They announced their engagement two weeks later via Instagram,[47] which became one of the platform's most-liked and reposted posts.[48] Before the proposal, the couple recorded an episode of New Heights with Kelce's older brother, Jason. Swift formally announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, during the episode,[49] which aired on August 13.[50] With over 1.3 million live viewers, the episode set the Guinness World Record for the most concurrent views for a podcast on YouTube.[51] It became the most-watched episode of New Heights on the platform, accumulating over 10 million views in less than 20 hours.[52]

While they were recording, Kelce had his backyard transformed into a "secret garden"; he used the episode to distract Swift.[53] After they finished, he invited her to walk around his backyard and have a glass of wine before they headed to dinner.[53] Kelce then presented Swift with an elongated cushion, old mine brilliant-cut diamond, bezel-set in a yellow gold band that featured filigree engravings on the sides.[54] Kelce worked with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry to design the ring.[54]

Various public figures reacted to the news.[55] Prominent entertainers who publicly congratulated the couple include Selena Gomez, Gracie Abrams, Cara Delevingne, Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Lautner, Avril Lavigne, Charlie Puth, Gordon Ramsay, and Reese Witherspoon.[56][57][58] U.S. President Donald Trump, who has been a frequent critic of Swift, wished the couple "a lot of luck" when an interviewer broke the news about their engagement to him at the White House.[59]

Planning

Details about the wedding became a topic of journalistic speculation and commentary following the engagement announcement.[60] On March 10, 2026, ESPN's Nate Taylor reported that Kelce hoped to marry before reporting for training camp on July 28.[61] Reports of a Swift–Kelce wedding on June 13 at the Ocean House, a hotel near Swift's Rhode Island mansion, were denied by luxury event designer Tara Guérard.[62] Us Weekly claimed that Swift and Kelce initially wanted their wedding in Rhode Island but moved the plans to New York City due to security concerns and an extensive guest list.[63] CBS News reported that more than US$2 million had been wagered in prediction markets on the wedding venue.[64] The Hollywood Reporter stated that Swift and Kelce hired creative event planner Mark Seed and his team for the wedding.[65]

Venue

On June 24, 2026, The New York Times reported that Swift had rented Madison Square Garden (MSG), an indoor arena in Manhattan, for July 2 and 3, that a "permit was filed with New York City to close the streets around Madison Square Garden from July 2 to midday July 4", and that several of Kelce's Chiefs' teammates had booked rooms at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square around that time. The authors noted that it was possible, if not probable, that Swift and Kelce could exchange vows in a smaller ceremony at a different site.[66] Bryan West of USA Today corroborated The New York Times' report and further commented that the wedding was "shaping up to be one of the biggest events of the year – if not the decade or century."[67] BBC confirmed the permit with Dora Pekec, spokesperson for the office of the Mayor of New York City.[68]

Schedule

On June 30, ABC News and Good Morning America reported that MSG would host two events related to the wedding.[69] The Associated Press later reported that an "intimate" rehearsal dinner would be held on July 2 at 6:30 p.m. EDT with 100 attendees, followed by a ceremony on July 3 at 5:30 p.m. with 1,000 attendees;[70] a reception would follow and was permitted to last until 4:00 a.m. the next morning.[71] Forbes reported that the Infosys Theater of MSG would host the rehearsal dinner, while the wedding ceremony would take place in the arena, and that several "A-list" wedding planners believed the arena would be transformed into "an unrecognizable romantic, flower-filled space". Guests, vendors, and security personnel reportedly signed nondisclosure agreements (NDAs).[72]

Cost

CNN reported that wedding planners estimated the cost of a luxury wedding at MSG to be between US$10 million and 20 million. Luxury wedding designer Tracy Taylor Ward described MSG as a "perfect fit" for the wedding due to its significance of "being a venue that's in the city that she has a home in, and because it's a venue that caters to both music and to sports".[1] Forbes estimated that the festivities would cost at least $20 million.[73]

Security

Outside Madison Square Garden, police erected barricades, only letting people enter New York Penn Station.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that his administration was prepared to handle public security during all major events that weekend—the 2026 FIFA World Cup, July Fourth, America 250, and Swift's wedding.[74] The New York City Police Department (NYPD) had been briefed about a potential influx of fans gathering around MSG.[63][75] The security perimeter permit, titled "Special Event at MSG," was approved on July 1 by New York City's permitting office.[71]

A large number of police officers gathered inside MSG as part of the event's security detail.[76] A strict no-phone policy was enforced at the wedding events, and portions of 31st and 33rd streets were closed for the duration, with tents and canopies set up to cover arrivals and departures.[69] Seventh Avenue was closed to cars between 30th and 34th streets, while pedestrian access was restricted on the west side of Seventh Avenue between 31st and 34th streets, and on 33rd Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. Access to Penn Station beneath MSG was also restricted.[76] At the wedding, guests arrived in streams of blacked-out SUVs seen driving through a pop-up tent erected outside the arena to shield their arrival.[77]

Ceremony

The rehearsal dinner, held on July 2, was described as an "intimate" evening affair; Swift and Kelce received 100 guests at the Infosys Theater. Attendees were given a bejeweled keepsake for the occasion—black velvet boxes etched with the couple's initials intertwined ("T&T"), each containing a large, diamond-adorned champagne flute. The boxes were presented alongside an image of Swift and Kelce's engagement photograph printed on frayed fabric.[78]

On July 3, guests arrived at the main space for cocktail hour, beginning at 4:30 pm.[76] The arena was transformed to resemble a forest whereas the seats were covered in white.[79] The ceremony began an hour later and was officiated by actor and comedian Adam Sandler, a longtime friend of the couple.[80] Swift and Kelce chose to forgo traditional bridesmaids and groomsmen, despite media speculation.[81] Instead, Swift's younger brother Austin served as her man of honor, while Kelce's older brother Jason served as his best man.[81] Swift walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of one of her songs. Jason and Kylie Kelce's children served as flower girls.[82] The couple spoke a 20-minute wedding vow each, reading them from a golden book.[79] They were pronounced husband and wife at 7:22 pm; hot pink billboards that read "JUST&T MARRIED!" were displayed around MSG moments later.[83]

A few moments after the billboards outside MSG lit up to announce the couple's marriage, sudden and intense winds began blowing through Manhattan, followed by a torrential rainstorm with lightning and a rainbow, which the media reported.[84][85][86] After the ceremony, Andrea Swift invited everyone into the reception room where a stage had been set up.[79] Music artists Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney, Ciara, and Fergie performed there, serenading the newlyweds.[87][88] McCartney performed "I Want to Hold Your Hand", the 1963 single by the Beatles[89]—his first time doing so since September 1964.[90] The event was catered by Zero Bond.[82]

Swift's wedding dress and Kelce's tuxedo were designed by Jonathan Anderson, the creative director of Christian Dior.[91] The couple were described as being "in close collaboration" with Anderson on their haute couture ensembles.[91] It was Anderson's first couture wedding dress for a famous celebrity.[79] Swift and Kelce also wore custom-made shoes designed by Christian Louboutin.[91] Swift additionally accented her attire with Cartier jewelry.[91] Guests received a custom, embroidered white napkin featuring the "T&T" logo and beneath it the lyric "So it's gonna be forever..." from Swift's single "Blank Space".[92][79]

Impact and response

In the week leading to the wedding, Swift and Kelce donated US$26 million to more than 20 charity organizations in the US, including nine food banks, an animal rescue organization, seven educational programs, and three children's hospitals, in the week leading to the wedding.[93] Dolly Parton expressed her gratitude to the couple for donating to the children's education program of her Dollywood Foundation.[94]

Fans, media outlets, and social circles in New York City, Los Angeles and Nashville speculated about the 1,000 people invited to the wedding.[95] Swifties gathered outside the MSG to celebrate the wedding.[96] Fans huddled outside the venue throughout the day, with some of them climbing the scaffolding to try catch a better view of the festivities.[77] New York City's Empire State Building[97] and Kansas City's Union Station were among the buildings lit in special colors in celebration of Swift and Kelce's wedding.[98] On the other hand, Mamdani revealed a Spotify playlist of 12 of his favorite songs by Swift.[99] Media outlets highlighted Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Harry Styles as the important absentees from the wedding.[100][101]

Press and media coverage of Swift and Kelce's nuptials were extensive,[102] with every detail inspiring an array of headlines.[65] Journalists covering Swift and Kelce's wedding equated it to the U.S. version of a royal wedding.[68] The Times of India said that Swift and Kelce's "wedding deliberations have been nothing short of an American royal wedding".[103] Forbes called it "the wedding of the decade",[72] while The Guardian hailed it as "the wedding of the century"[104] and a "cultural spectacle" at the heart of New York City.[105] NBC dubbed them "America's most famous couple".[13] Variety's executive music editor, Jem Aswad, said the publication, typically devoted to the business of Hollywood, planned to cover the wedding extensively, considering reader interest. Rolling Stone prepared several articles in anticipation of the wedding day, including a history of major celebrity weddings and a list of Swift's greatest love songs, according to co-editor-in-chief Shirley Halperin.[102] Ashlyn Robinette of People said, though the MSG "may seem like an unconventional wedding venue, it makes sense for Swift and Kelce, whose relationship sits at the intersection of two of the venue's defining attractions: blockbuster concerts and major sporting events" while offering several safety, security, and privacy advantages.[79] According to the USA Today columnist Kofi Mframa, the wedding "won't please internet tastemakers, but chicness was never [Swift's] penchant. Hosting a wedding at MSG is Swift remaining faithful to her canon of uncool."[106]

Various critics associated the wedding with an American cultural identity. Kristen Meinzer and Mark Savage of the BBC opined that Swift and Kelce's union is significant are they are from "two important worlds" with regards to pop culture and the American identity, making them one of the most powerful married couples in the US with "huge sway across the music, sport, film, podcast, publishing and television industries."[107][77] Amanda Hess of The New York Times agreed, dubbing Swift and Kelce's "royal" marriage as a consolidation of their cultural powers on the 250th Independence Day of the U.S.[8] Tyler Forgatt of The New Yorker said that with the wedding, Swift's "life caught up to her art" as a culmination of two decades of songs about love and life. Forgatt described their marital union as a merger of "America's two state religions"—pop music and football.[88] According to Elizabeth Vlossak, professor at Brock University, Swift and Kelce present "a new Americana that the rest of the world hopes for from America."[108]

The Trump administration attempted to troll the wedding. The official White House social media accounts posted images appropriating imagery and lyrics from Swift's career to depict a Trumpist version of American history in forms of "eras", similar to the Eras Tour poster.[109]

According to the gossip column Page Six, NYPD officers stationed around the wedding complained about working extended shifts in extreme heat—some officers cited over 24-30 hours straight without breaks—during one of the hottest stretches of the year.[110] Political commentator Hasan Piker criticized Swift and Kelce, calling their celebration an excessive, "dramatic misuse of public resources",[111] and "a little bit tacky, at best."[112] Charles Trepany of USA Today said that though many celebrated the high-profile wedding, others criticized its extravagance. Trepany highlighted that other luxury celebrity weddings, including those of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, and Ankur Jain and Erika Hammond have "come under the harsh judgment of the internet." Family therapist Erik Anderson opined that many people feel they may never achieve the financial security their parents had, making luxury events a stark reminder of growing inequality.[113] Holly Baxter of The Independent felt that New York City has become "a rich person's playground dressed up as a liveable city" but opined "the happy couple are the symptom rather than the disease".[114] Joshua Nelken-Zitser of Business Insider said the wedding reminded him of Bezos' wedding party and will be "remembered for generosity or gridlock," depending on who you ask.[115] New York reported that "a barrage of people" on the Internet lamented the city's electricity bill and "misspent" taxpayer dollars, but that the New York City locals themselves "carried on with modest enthusiasm tempered with indifference".[116]

Maya Georgi of Rolling Stone said the presence of businessman Steven J. Demetriou at the wedding "caused a huge stir". He is the executive chairman of Amentum Services, who is the sole government contractor of Camp East Montana, the largest immigrant detention site in the country. Demetriou had adopted Kelce's longtime friend Reggie King, who was invited to the wedding, and King allegedly brought along his whole family. Fans criticized Swift and Kelce for allowing someone with "ICE connections" at the wedding, given the couple's Democratic affiliations.[117]
