Development

In May 2023, Paramount Network green-lit an untitled Yellowstone spin-off series with MTV Entertainment Studios, Taylor Sheridan's Bosque Ranch Productions, and 101 Studios serving as production companies. In August 2024, the series title was revealed as The Madison[5][6] and Michelle Pfeiffer was announced to be starring in and executive producing the series.[7][8]

By August 2025, Paramount Television Studios had taken over production of the series following the merger of MTV Entertainment Studios' parent company Paramount Global with Skydance Media into Paramount Skydance.[9] That same month, the series was renewed for a second season.[10] When the trailer for the series was released, Paramount+ announced that The Madison would actually be a stand-alone series not connected to the Yellowstone franchise.[11]

Casting

Pfeiffer was announced as a cast member on August 8, 2024.[7][8] Later that month, Elle Chapman, Patrick J. Adams, Beau Garrett, Amiah Miller, and Matthew Fox were announced as cast members.[12][13] Ben Schnetzer was announced as a cast member on October 15, 2024.[14] Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, Alaina Pollack, and Danielle Vasinova were announced as cast members on December 17, 2024.[15][16] Kurt Russell was announced to have joined the cast on September 5, 2025.[17][18] Will Arnett was confirmed to have joined the cast in a guest role on January 18, 2026.[19]

Filming

Principal photography on the first season began in August 2024.[20] Filming took place in Montana from September to October 2024. Scenes set in New York City were filmed in Dallas in mid-November 2024.[21] Filming moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in late November and lasted through mid-December 2024.[22][23]

The second season began filming in September 2025[10] and later wrapped in December 2025.[24]

Music

Breton Vivian composed the score for the series, having previously worked with Sheridan on other Yellowstone projects.[25]

Release

The first season premiered on March 14, 2026, on Paramount+ in the United States.[26] In Europe, the series is slated to released on SkyShowtime.[27]

Reception

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the show's first season holds a 68% approval rating based on 31 critic reviews.[28]
