Carlos Alcaraz was the reigning champion,[1] but withdrew before the tournament due to a wrist injury.[2]

Jannik Sinner is attempting to become the second player, after Novak Djokovic, to complete the career Golden Masters. He is also attempting to become the second player, after Rafael Nadal in 2010, to win all three clay-court ATP Masters 1000 events in the same season (having won Monte-Carlo and Madrid).[3] Sinner is also attempting to extend his record of five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles. With his quarterfinal win, Sinner recorded his 32nd consecutive match win at the Masters 1000 level, surpassing Djokovic's record.[4]
